Why is the SMP amount showing incorrectly on the payslip?

Datafile release 5.4 in May 2003 contains a programming change in the payroll to handle the new laws on Statutory Maternity Pay. The data for SMP is now held in the EM2 file where previously it was on the EMP file, with the result that the payslip may now show 0 in the current and year-to-date SMP figures while the total nett pay is correct.

The solution to this problem depends on whether there is anybody on the payroll claiming SMP from before April 2003. If so, the new data items must be added from the EM2 file alongside the old data items. If not, the old data items can be replaced with the new ones. Note that the P60 will not need any special configuration at the year-end as it will use a special combined data item.

To replace/add the new data items you go to Installation, Application Manager, Document Design Manager, Payroll Documents, Payslips, and confirm the pathname.
In the document layout, find the SMP fields and either make more room for the new fields or delete the old fields. Position the cursor where you want the data to appear, then press F4, double-click 'Employee Details (2)', find an empty slot and double-click in it, then double-click on item 66 (C-SMP-AMT)- the item should appear as a white box. Repeat the process for item 68 (Y-SMP-AMT).
